Stylish Blogger

Recently on the same day, both Sam and Lucy, and Eric and Flynn, nominated me for the Stylish Blogger Award. Thank you all four for this award! I am supposed to tell you 7 things about myself.

1. I am really quite svelte under all my floof.

2. In the evening, if I hear so much as a single creak on the stairs, I know if it is Mom, and if it is, I go up to join her in bed. I don’t do this with Dad, because somehow I can tell who it is going upstairs.

3. I seem good at regulating my food intake. Even if there is a constant supply of dry food, I only eat so much. I like moist food the best, but I also don’t overdo it there, and I like smaller amounts of moist food more often rather than a big bowlfull.

4. The house I live in is quite large, and I have several favorite napping spots. I always spend part of the day in the basement on the window ledge and a lot of the day on the sofa.

5. I never beg for, or eat, human food. I could be trusted with the whole Thanksgiving turkey on the counter and leave it alone.

6. When Mom and Dad got me, I was already declawed, and though they wouldn’t have been likely to have done that to me themselves, it means I don’t need scratching posts, and really I am not a climbing type kitty. So I don't have the fun of kitty condos, or climbing structures here. It is sometimes funny to see me “scratching” on the corner of a box, or a chair, with my stubby toes.

7. Each day I ask one of my humans to give me a small bathroom Dixie cup full of water on the floor of the shower enclosure. It has to be just that way. I don’t seem to “get” the joy of dripping faucets, or water in sinks.

I have greatly enjoyed reading about other kitties who have received this award, who are many. Although I am supposed to nominate 7 other bloggers to receive it, instead I am going to leave it open for anyone who has not gotten it yet to take it. Because all my friends are Stylish Bloggers!

PhotoHunt - Standing

I have posted either this, or a similar picture before, but I felt it was perfect for today's Photo Hunters theme of "Standing". I absolutely adore the curling ribbon, and unfortunately will eat it if I can, so my humans need to keep it out of my reach. Mom was having some fun tempting me with a piece out on the deck about 2 summer's ago. I believe the last time I posted a picture like this, it was zoomed in and cropped, to emphasize my buttocks for a "tocks" in Tocktober picture.

Thursday in the Garden with Simba

We had about 10-12 inches of new snow between yesterday and this morning. Everything is freshly covered in white fluffy stuff. The snow is deep on the deck because Dad had only party cleared it after that last round of snow. He throws seed out under the table and chairs for the birds, and we saw this squirrel digging furiously in the snow for some of it.

Dad opened the kitchen window for me and I looked out for a bit, but it was rather boring.
Then they opened the sliding door: you can see how high the snow was: even over the height of the door!
I asked Mom to put me out in the snow so I could test it out and tell you about it (if you believe that is how it went, I have a Bridge to sell you). I paused in the one spot, feeling myself sinking into the snow, twisted around and leapt back into the house!

Tummy Tuesday

Sometimes I sleep in this corner of the family room, tucked away behind the computer table, among the power cords. One day Mom saw me doing my yoga there, and snapped this picture. I am not sure what this position is called. Any yoga experts out there?

Easy Sunday

I have to take a very long nap today because Dad will be watching lots of Football. I will probably even put my paws over my ears.

Please continue purr for Annie, who is still in the hospital, and also for my cousin Audrey, who has a UTI: she developed it while her Mom was away in Ethiopia, and so her Mom's friend had to take her to the vet. But she got an antibiotic shot and is back at home with her Mom now. We are all very glad her Mom is safely home from her long trip and now MY Mom gets to talk to her on the phone again.

Photo Hunt - Hands

These photos ome from my humans' trip to Alaska. One day they were with a group of people exploring the tidal pools near Glacier Bay. These hands show the different creatures they found: starfish;
Sea urchin;
Another type of starfish;
and a sea cucumber.

Flashback on Friday

I am sorry, kitties, but I can't post more of what it looks like outside today - we have MORE SNOW! BORing. And you sure won't find me out there, so if you like to see pictures of me, then we have a problem today. This is a summer picture of me to ease your eyes. Just imagine that warm air, and breeze fluffing up your fur ..........

Feeding the Feathers

My Dad has a soft spot for the feathered creatures and in the snowy weather he throws seed on top of the snow on our deck, as well as filling two feeders with food for them. This pretty little female cardinal came by the other morning for a snack. We even had a hawk swoop past the other day! We think it was hopeful of catching one of the small birds. I enjoy watching the little birds on the deck, but after a while I get sleepy from it and have to nap.
Stay warm, my Northern friends!

Mix it Up and Miffed Monday

Audrey here, Kitties. I feel you need a break from looking at Simba all the time. I am that one who is Simba's "niece", though we are about the same age, so we think of ourselves as cousins.

I am feeling a bit miffed. My Mommy left over a week ago to go on a LOOONG trip to Ethiopia, to help people there. And she left me behind! So I am saying I am miffed. Truth be told, though, I am having a blast, staying with a friend who has a cat, rabbit, dog and birdies! But I WILL be glad when my own Mommy returns on Saturday.
Oh, and I hear there is a slight chance I may be going to go and live with Simba in the future........ not sure about that yet, but we will keep you posted.

Sunpuddle Sunday

The sunpuddles are pretty weak these days, and sometimes it can be a real struggle to catch a bit of one!

Happy Sunday, everybuddy.

PhotoHunt - Shadow

Ah, to be out on the deck in the sunshine again. In the early spring in the late afternoon, the sun would make a shadow like this of the railings. I think this photo was taken in the early spring, before the trees had leaves on them, because when the trees have leaves on them, this part of the deck would be shaded. Also, peeking at the grass in the background, it looks rather wintery. Unfortunately the date on this photo is messed up because the camera was reverting to 2002 dates for all the pictures. Mom knows the date is wrong, because that would be before they even got me. This photo was taken about 2 years ago.

Mission Accomplished

Still cultivating my "Nothing is Going On" look, but I have big news to report. I accomplished my first Mission. Instructions from M were to eliminate the threat of Rosa Klebb when I saw her. I was told that in the snowy weather, the basement had been infiltrated with SMERSH agents.

Now, kitties, I have never killed a warm blooded creature before. Honest. Yet the night before last, I effectively neutralized Rosa Klebb in the family room. Remember that the 00 in front of 007 means "license to kill". New readers can read back a few posts to understand that I was given my 007 license recently.

You would be surprised at how small Rosa turned out to be. I would say about 2 1/2 inches long, not including her tail.

And some kitties were correct. "M" is indeed Mom. M was not present for the neutralization, but I presented her with irrefutable evidence that I had successfully completed my mission.

Thursday in the Garden Throwback

I decided to go through my photos and find the closest photo to 6 months ago that showed me outside, since I thought many of the kitties in the cold and snow could use a reminder of summer. You can see my impatiens flowers at the front of the photo, and I am obviously enjoying watching a squirrel or chimpunk playing down below. So spring and summer WILL come again!

Secret Mission

I have been told my Secret Mission. But if I told you what it is, it wouldn't be a SECRET Mission, would it? Since I am still learning some aspects of being a 007, I had not thought of that. Now I have to think about how I am going to execute my Secret Mission. I know that part of it all is that I am supposed to act normally, just like any other cat. So I am practicing doing that. My Mission will only succeed if I can fool All into thinking nothing unusual is going on.

Manly Monday -007 Version

007 Simba here. In my Secret Location. As per Milo and Alfie's question on yesterday's post, I am awaiting instructions on my Special Mission. The instructions will come from M.

Hmmm, I wonder if M is Milo ............... Or Millie ............ Melly..........Maui.......... Mom .............

Lazy Sunday

007 Simba here. Sunday is my lazy day, so I will be napping in my favorite corner today. Getting ready for lots of 007 action starting tomorrow. I think.

Licensed to K---

You may recall that I told you our town was going to be requiring licenses for cats this year. So my humans went and got my license yesterday: guess what, it is NOT a license to DRIVE. It is a license for them to KEEP me. And I have a tag that needs to be on me when I am outside, so that if I get lost and am picked up, it is clear that I am not a feral kitty, but have an owner and a license. So Mom says I will always have to wear my harness outside. We will SEE about THAT! This photo of me in my harness during the fall shows what I think about having to wear it.

But the exciting part is my license number. I am cat number 007 ! Isn't that fun?
So I am sure that I am licensed to do all sorts of things now.

Thursday AT The Garden

When the parents were on their Christmas trip (and deserted me), they went to the Missouri Botanical Garden one day. The highlights were indoors: there was a beautiful display of Christmas wreaths, of which this is just one:

And a train show decorated all around with plants, especially beautiful poinsettias. The details in the villages and with the trains were so much fun!

They also did walk around the garden, because the weather was quite mild that day, although the Garden is much more beautiful during the spring, summer and fall. There are usually lilies in this lily pond. They did see several wonderful holly trees covered in red berries.

The snow came later, on Christmas Day; when they went for a walk in the Park: Mom likes these benches covered with snow.

InTROOder Tuesday

What a surprise Mom came upon on Sunday morning in the family room! What amazed her is that there was no growling or hissing at all. The black kitty stayed for quite a while, and only left after I had gotten quite vigorous pawing at the sliding door. She actully thinks I may have wanted to PLAY with the introoder.

Poor introoder being out in the rain. Mom does hope he/she has a home, and will be in the lookout for a return visit.

Easy Sunday: Celebrating My Ninth Birthday

My humans don't know exactly when my birthday is, but they were told when they got me in July 2003 that I was 1 1/2 years old. So they decided that my birthday would be January 1st, to make it easy to remember. But then they forgot yesterday (to be truthful, they didn't but they decided so much was going on with New Year's Day, and then coming home, to blog about it today.)

I thought it would be fun to show you three of the very earliest pictures of me taken with a digital camera, at the end of 2003/beginning of 2004. I look almost the same, don't I? The other cat in the last picture is my bro Rusty, who was here when I moved in, but ran suddenly to the Rainbow Bridge several years ago, before I started to blog. We were like a Mutt and Jeff couple. He was long and lean and I am more rounded and floofy-looking. As you can see, even then, I loved messy blankie, as did Rusty, and would lie on the dining room table when I got a chance.

Photo Hunt - Fuzzy

Decided not to post the obvious picture of me on one of my fuzzy blankies, because you have seen lots of those. This photo is one a many out-takes from before Christmas by our tree. Most of the pictures looked fuzzy because Mom was trying to take them in the evening using only the light from the lamps and the tree lights.

But maybe the photo is really in focus and it is just too much New Year's Eve partying that makes it look fuzzy to you?????
