Sunspot Saturday

I pleaded to go out on my deck first thing this morning, but my folks explained how extremely cold it was out there. So I found a bit of sunspot on the table: I can't even say it is a WARM sunspot at 9 am in the morning, but the brightness cheers me up a little. I can also look out the window and I even heard (but didn't see) the neighbors' darg. Just between you and me, there is a bit of passive aggressiveness about getting on the dining room table again! Dad said I can go on the deck when things have warmed up a little.

Timid Thursday

I am usually quite suspicious about toys. The ones on wands are the most questionable to me. I have had this feather wand toy for quite a while, but do not seem to enjoy playing with it. Dad did manage to get a bit of quick moves out of me by dangling it near me the other day, but my general attitude about it is reflected in my body language in this photo. I mean, after all, what on earth IS it?

Tuesday Tease

This photo has nothing to do with cats quite obviously, but I borrowed it from my Mom to tease you a little. Most of us are feeling the winter blahs of the northern hemisphere, and envying our friends in warmer places. But to help cheer you up a little, I present crocuses from last March. So Spring is not really that far away, folks and cats and dargs too. Yayyyyyyyyyy!

Manly Lion Monday - My Pride Rock

On Saturday morning Mom cleared the paper clutter off the dining room table and put a clean tablecloth on it. Within a short time, I was lying on the table. I can survey various parts of the house from there, and consider it my Pride Rock ( since I am named for Simba, of The Lion King fame.). There was also quite a nice bit of sunspot on there that morning.

Now be honest, cats, how many of you climb on the dining room table?

Smarty Pants on Saturday

There has been some kidding going on in the comments of Cheysuli's blog post of yesterday, in which the purpose was to find out where Chey was, given a picture of a place somewhere. Chey was featured in the picture as usual.

The kitty who most often wins Find Chey Fridays is 'Kaika, and she has earned the title "Smarty Pants" as a result. I said I can show MY pair of smartypants, and here they are! I previously showed a very similar picture to show how frustrated I get if my folks are out on the deck and I am inside (not so much now in the cold). But it also shows my ample pair of pantaloons.

'Kaika, I think it is high time you start your own blog. You have a blogger profile so the next step is easy. I am sure we would find you very interesting and entertaining. I was encouraged to start my blog from a comment Skeezix made on Chey's blog and I am very glad I did. It has been lots of fun.

Manly Monday

When it snows, my Dad tries to clear a walkway around the edges of our deck (on the deck). Then I will ask to go out and 'splore it and all the smells. This is a very manly thing to do. Snow is odd stuff but I am brave. There may be strange smells from other animals, but I am brave. Dad is shoveling nearby but I am brave.

Once I have checked everything out, I ask to come back in. Because I may be brave, but my feet are cold!

Morning Routine

Once I have had my breakfast in the mornings (or at least my FIRST breakfast!), I seem to always settle into a snooze in one spot next to the sliding door going onto our deck. Later in the morning I have a favorite spot in the dining room. In the afternoons I sleep on the couch or on a window ledge in the basement. When Mom is on the computer, I often lie between the keyboard and the monitor, although I hardly ever do so after breakfast. Here I am in my after-breakfast-morning-starting-spot. Do you have interesting habits about your sleeping spots?

Happy Birthday Gracie

It is Gracie's first birthday today! She is having a wonderful Dr Seuss party and all furries are invited. This is the hat she is giving to all her party guests (it's the Cat in the Hat hat!). Go on over and say Happy Birthday to her.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am so thankful I do not live in Haiti. With all the devastation for the people, imagine what has happened to the animals. Please purr loudly for them all.

Monday is Laundry Day

Mom says she doesn't know how our family manages to create so much laundry (or Washing as my international friends may call it). She is very pleased she lives in a country where a washing machine and a (tumble) dryer are common fixtures.

I think I have a bit of an idea why clothes need washing so often around here. It rhymes with Mat Bloof.

Snuggly Sunday

Since I don't have any other kitties or woofies here to snuggle with, and I am not much of a lap cat, I usually snuggle in blankets. One favorite crocheted blanket often ends up in a messy pile on the sofa, hence it is called "Messy Blanket". Here I am particularly snuggled into it, and it is in a particularly messy pile. Heavenly and especially appropriate for a chilly Sunday.

Floofy Friday too

Today Fin has posted another of her Floofy Friday posts and I thought to myself, Floof on Fridays works for me as well! Thank you Fin for the idea, because as a Mancat, I cannot do Foxy Friday as suggested by Rumbles. I don't have frootbat ears or flying ears like the Poupounette gang.

So here is some belly floof for you for my Friday post. Stay warm and happy weekend!

Toys

I have read with interest other cats' and dogs' posts about their excitement over new Christmas toys. I have a very limited attention span for any purchased cat toys. Note the bored look on my face when looking at one of my new Christmas balls. However I will play with things not intended to be toys: rubber bands, a balled up piece of paper or foil, etc. Yesterday I discovered a 7-sided plastic container my Mom puts her daily vitamins into so she doesn't forget to take them (one small compartment for each day of the week) and I discovered I could use it like a hockey puck on the carpet. I had a fun game with it.

Mom says she is going to have a garage sale to get rid of all the cat toys I never play with*, so some other kitty can have some fun with them!

*Edited to add: or she could give them to a shelter

Toesday?

I am mostly lying on my toes in this picture. But you can see them if you look hard. I have very stubby toes, on account of the fact that my previous owners had me declawed long before my Mom and Dad got me from them. Though my Mom and Dad would not take a kitty to be declawed themselves, they notice that I do seem to do fine with my clawless front feet, and even "shred" the sofa with them on occasions.

During the Christmas holidays I get more chances to go into the living room, a sacred place that is usually off limits for kitties due to the potential for breakage of Precious Things, as well as the intolerance of the rug and white couch to Cat Barf. Here I am doing my Lion in the Cave imitation under the coffee table, where it is a little harder for Mom to get a hold of me and remove me from the room. I was also catching part of a nice sunspot.

Easy on Sunday

This blue and white checked fleece blanket is all mine - I may share some other blankets with the folks, but not this one. It usually covers the end couch cushion. However Mom had folded it back diagonally so as not to breathe in my fur when she lay down on the couch.

I laid on it anyway - even though I had to squoosh myself over against the arm of the couch in order to fit on its small size. Mom says I am a Funny Boy.

It is COLD here! I hope all furry creatures are keeping warm, wherever you are. Some of that New Zealand sunshine looks very tempting right now, Misha, Cosmo, Noggin, Rumbles, Inigo, and PoppyQ !

Apple IIe and Belle

Apparently the computer Belle is lying on (yesterday's post) is called an Apple IIe. My commenters had excellent guesses about when the picture was taken. My folks bought the computer for Christmas 1983, and continued to use it till the beginning of the 1990s. The picture of Belle was taken in 1989. Belle lived until she was nearly 14 human years old and went to the Rainbow Bridge in 2003.

Mom tells me in the"old days" they mostly used the computer for word processing, and the internet had not been "discovered" then. And that the screen was not in color, and the computer didn't have a hard drive. I cannot believe any of that. She must be wrong.

Favorite Felines on Friday

So many kitties are publishing pictures or videos of themselves when they were kittens, in honor of Fin and her Mom's birthday. Since I was already about 18 months old when I came to live with my Mom and Dad, they do not have any kitten pictures of me. However, I present this kitten picture of Belle, who came before me and also went to the Rainbow Bridge before I arrived here. Her kitten ears are quite frootbattish! She was a girl after my own heart in the way she would lie on the computer (My Mom's current computer is too skinny to lie ON, so I lie between it and the keyboard). She also loved to lie on the back of the couch cushions. Here she was a grown cat:

Belle knew Rusty, and I knew Rusty, so I guess in a way I knew her too.

Can you guess when the picture with Belle lying on the computer was taken?
